In my immaturity, I have found myself purposefully and often using the phrase ‘invisible children-cum-child soldiers,’ mostly because of the immediate pricking of ears upon mention of children, but equally because of the strong likelihood for reaction based on ‘cum.’ That is to say the predilection for assuming use as verb or noun rather than conjunction or preposition. The reaction to said possible verb or noun is apparently strong enough to keep one’s brain from recognizing what was said and replacing that with what one thinks was said. I have bedeviled my mind with contemplation of the degree to which perception indicates truth, thus influences reality, for years. That said, perhaps I’ll write on that topic another time, for now I am focusing on folks who know they are right to my wrong, better to my worse, possessed of worthwhile experience and knowledge to my poverty of those things. The holier than me set are also a fuck-load more prurient than I.
I had intended to swear off of the generally pointless dullard-baiting, but my failures do provide observable points from which to estimate potential shifts in my behavior and thinking.
I suppose I could shift to a more commonly accepted ‘Latin’ pronunciation. Fuck, no.
